TURPS CRITS

Turps Crits (previously Turps Surgeries) are group crits for up to 6 painters led by 2 Turps mentors. The crits start at 10.30am and finish at 5pm. Each painter will have around 40 minutes for their work to be discussed by the group. Upcoming dates are announced below.

Turps Crits are a fantastic opportunity for any painter to join an intense, critical, and encouraging live group crit, led by two experienced Turps Mentors.  It helps painters rethink what they’re making and how they’re making it, while giving them the chance to talk candidly, openly, and critically about their work and the work of others.  It’s also a great way for painters to connect over the course of the session, especially those who may feel isolated working alone in their own studios.

Fee: £175 per session.

TESTIMONIALS:

‘It had been several years since I had taken part in a crit activity, and the experience was well structured and planned. Scott and Marcus facilitated the crit very well through their accessible and honest way of talking about art, the crit was a very safe space for artists to feel comfortable sharing thoughts and ideas. Their feedback was thoughtful and stimulating, and I left with several ideas to get started on straight away. I would highly recommend it and look forward to doing it again in the future.’

– Joe O’Rourke, Turps Live Surgery Manchester, 2024

‘Turps Live Surgery was a really useful day. I felt it was a supportive but critical (in a good way) environment, people weren’t afraid to say what they thought and I found this really helpful. I think it is judged very well - it feels like mentoring rather than being dictated to. It is sensitive but sincere, really useful, and a good mixture of suggestions of artists to look at. It’s always good to come away with things to look up and read up on afterwards - it feels like the benefit is long lasting this way.

–Daniella Norton, Turps Live Surgery London, 2024
